RosaMy name is Rosa, i was born in the caribbean. Im dominican, but what most people dont know about the Dominican Rep., is that we are very racially diversed. My mom is french,black,and indian; my dad is spanish&indian. But so i dont confuse people i just say im "dominican", i mean i am, cause thats my nationality, but to me my background is diversed! Where i come from my mom is considered "mulatto", and dad is considered "white". I have experienced some racism with my dad's side of the family, they would talk about my mom(right in front of me)...that might not seem so bad to you, but my mom is like my best friend, and i am what she is, so thats like half of me being talked about! So that hurted, i have experienced some racism from white people at times, as well as hispanics, and blacks just think thats cool that im racially diversed! I was watching a talk show the other day, and this guy was "mixed" with black&indian, and someone referred to him as being "mixed", and he said "im not (mixed), that word is for dogs, dogs are mixed, im just racially diversed", and that struck me as being truth. I dont mind being referred to as being mixed, but to be honest, i would prefer someone not to say that(if they would i wouldnt get offended, but im just letting it be known). I have alot of friends that are "mixed", with everythin, TRUST ME; and i dont mind when people ask me "what are you", that just might mean that they're curious, but at times, i'll be the first one to admit"IT KINDA GETS ANNOYIN"! But its part of life, i love my culture, i love my fam, and of course myself(not being conceited)!!!
