I was reading some of the stories and it is nice to know that there are a lot of interracial people out there who've had the same experiences and feelings I've had. I am 26 and my father is African American and my mother is Irish/Native American. My parent's marriage was the third for them both and I was the only child between them. I have white siblings and black siblings and never saw anybody who looked like me until I was in high school. Growing up in the South was very difficult with my family situation, but my parents handled it wonderfully. I have to commend my siblings also; they never made me feel different and were never ashamed of me....we are all very close knit. However, the dating seen was not quite so supportive. Although I have dated both black and white men, I am now in a long-term relationship with an interracial man (his father is Greek/mother is Caucasian). Although he is not as dark as I am, he understands my frustrations, experiences, fears and questions. I feel like I don't have to "choose an identity" with him.
