Why Participate?

My Shoes was created for the multiracial individual who has a white appearance and wishes to interact with others of similar heritage.

My Shoes is for you if you are multiracial with a white appearance and have ever wished that you could share your unique thoughts and feelings with others who could more easily identify with them.

My Shoes is for you if you have ever believed that only another multiracial person with a white appearance could fully understand some of your personal dilemmas.

My Shoes is for you if you have ever felt isolated and just wanted to meet other individuals like yourself.

There are two support groups that you can join. One is for youth through high school age and the other is for adults. Although these groups are similar, age separation will allow the members of each group to better identify with each other. However, no one is restricted from participating in either group.

Web Hostess:

Hostess for this web site is Dr. Juanita Brooks, a biracial clinical psychologist who has a white appearance herself. She has worked therapeutically with individuals since 1972 and believes that a support group of this kind can be an alternative to formal psychotherapy for many people. Dr. Brooks will not be offering psychological services through the group. She will be the group moderator and a group member. She encourages individuals who feel deeply disturbed about personal issues to find a qualified counselor or psychologist in their geographical area.

Although This Is Not A Psychotherapy Group, Discussion And Support Can Be Helpful.

The site hostess reserves the right to discard without explanation any submission or photograph that she believes is not consistent with the intent of My Shoes. My Shoes is a forum where multiracial individuals with a white appearance can meet and express our thoughts and feelings.
