How did you deal with the 2000 Census question concerning race?

For every previous census I always checked black without much thought about it. I probably would have done the same in 2000 if my conciousness had not been raised as a result of the multiracial movement. Thank you Michael Byrd for developing your web site, Interracial Voice.
In 2000 I checked the two boxes that best represented my ethnicity. It felt good that the government was finally acknowledging that there are individuals who are more than one race. In an ideal world there would not need to be a race category on the census. We are not there yet, but the world is a lot better than it was when I was a child 50 years ago. I can only anticipate that it will continue to get better.
As an adolescent in the sixties I truly believed in the civil rights
slogan, "Black and White Together. We Shall Overcome Someday."
I've always hoped that it would be in my lifetime. I have not lost
that hope!
