Requests for help with research
I'm requeting photographs(pictures) of biracial people, because I want
to see how they look. I'm biracial(black/white)myself. I just want to see
if they look like me, or look different. I have four biracial bros', but
we don't all look the same. One looks like me(I look mixed.) One looks
white like my mom. One looks black like my dad. The other looks mixed,
but he doesn't look like me. That's all for now. If anyone would like to
e-mail me feel free.
Calling all young women of color 13-30 for an upcoming anthology. Poetry,
spoken word, prose, journal entries, essays, autobios, etc. welcome. Please
email me for the full submission guidelines.
I am a published writer living in Maryland, and my book is on the racial
divide in America and the burden it places on individuals of color. One
aspect that I am address is "passing" whether it be intentional or not.
I am looking for people with a story to share with readers. Tell me what
it feels like to benefit from the white privileges based upon the color
of your skin or to deny them to you for the same reason. Do you find racial
distinctions a burden? How do you cope with the conflict within our multiracial
society? I would love to hear from you. Write me at: rosettamcpherson@aol.com.
All information will remain confidential unless you elect otherwise. Thank
you in advance.
I need history on biracial children and couples plus the ethnicity and
race and any government involvement if any. All info you can get would
be great.
I'm doing a research paper over inter-racial marriages for a college
class. I can only use two websites and I have to have at least five different
sources. Can you tell me some websites and some sources that I could use??
I am a graduate student in speech therapy & Spanish at California State University Long Beach and I too, am doing research on the biracial child and how his/her biracial identity affects behavior and academic achievement. If you might have any personal experiences that you can share with me (you may keep your name anonymous) regarding yourself or your biracial child that would be great. Interesting points I'm curious to know is:
*what which race of the parent is the child predominantly familiar with/exposed to/inclined to identify with? *ask your child to draw a self-portrait, what color does he/she color his/her skin and what "term" does he/she use to refer to his/her skin color and why? *ask your child to draw a picture of his/her family and ask the same questions as above? *depending on how old the child is, when did he/she start consciously using colors or terms of culture of which he/she identified with *how does the child answer when he/she is asked "what is your ethnicity? *has your child ever experienced tantrums or behavior problems that you think may be due to his/her biracial identity? *if you are biracial, what are your own experiences in relation to this subject?
Please email me for any questions or if you can provide me with any
personal information. Please note, I'd also love to have the childrens'
pictures, if I am allowed. Thank you!

Hi my name is Quahari Turner, and I am a senior at California State
University in San Bernardino. I am currently working on my psychology honors
project with my mentor Dr. M.Jean Peacock investigating the the variables
that predict ethnic identity among individuals that are the product of
an interracial relationship. If you are biracial, with one parent that
is black and one parent that is white, please contact me.
Hi, I am a photographer at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, NY. We are looking for subjects for an upcoming story on the census and the changes this year that allow for people to check more than one box when identifying their race or ethnicity. I am hoping to find a couple in which both adults are bi or multi racial who ideally would also have children. They would need to have checked more than one box on the census form and be willing to be photographed and interviewed in the next few weeks for a story.
If anyone is interested please comtact me at my home email or at work at (716) 258-2639.
Thanks for your help.
Hi I am a student and I am doing a pro's & con's paper and I need
some information on weather white families should be allowed to adopt black
children? I have to write on both sides and then give my opinion over the
whole situation. If there is anyone out there who can help me with some
reseach over any side please contact me.
My name is Lupe Guzman and I have recently been hired to head a research
project on the romantic relationship between Asians and Latinos in the
city of San Jose, California. Both have a long history in this area yet
there is very little documentation on their interactions. This project
is especially unique because the information gathered will be used to develop
art (being paintings, murals, music, plays, etc) which will then be presented
to the community. It is an attempt to reach out and educate those who are
normally ignored by academia. If anyone has a list of resources or would
like to share an experience, please email. Thank you for your time.
HI! I am doing a research paper on inter-racial marriages as it pertains

I am writing a report for a race relations class on Bi-racial people.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any famous people? Thanx
I am writing a book tentatively titled "Stirring the Melting Pot - the
Mixing of Races in America". I need lots of input and all the varying points
of view in order to write a book that covers the story. On the website
you will find two surveys: one for people of mixed race and one for the
parents of people of mixed race (those who chose to create a relationship
of different cultures/races). Your story and opinions will help. I have
a three-fold goal: to be a catalyst for racial harmony in the 21st century;
to open a dialogue among family members, friends, students, teachers, citizens
and politicians about race relations; and third to spotlight the well-known,
successful people of mixed race in order to encourage the children of mixed
race who are coming up, like my grandson Journey, who is 1/2 black, 1/4
Japanese and 1/4 Caucasian. Your point of view can help! This is a chance
to have an impact on racial harmony in the 21st century. PS I also need
a good name for the site which I haven't settled on yet. Any suggestions
would be appreciated!
are you a young woman of color who is between the ages of 14-25 and sick of being misrepresented or left out of contemporary literature? if you are then listen up! my name is wendy thompson and i am currently putting together a book about/for/by young women of color that covers the many issues we struggle with on a daily basis. this book will be a vehicle through which you and your personal experience(s) are described and made real. the reasons behind doing this...we as women of color have been stereotyped and ignored, our images distorted, i felt it was about time women of color spoke out for this new millennium and in this book, we all have that opportunity to speak for ourselves. a little about me: i grew up in oakland, ca. a very diverse city where i was surrounded by drugs, violence, and deterioration. my parents didn't want me to end up pregnant or in a gang so they moved out with me at 15 and even though i hated it [living in suburbia] at the time, that move probably prevented me from being a statistic today. so im in college now and i've been wanting to put out a publication in which young women of color have an opportunity to step outside of the margins. this book will hopefully address issues of racism, sexism, violence, and personal struggle [rape, teen pregnancy, gangs] as well as victory [activism, art, and empowerment]. so what do you think? i am currently being sponsored by a san francisco based organization called WILD which specializes in human rights education. as of now, we are in the beginning stages of putting this all together but submissions are EXTREMELY welcome. i am looking for 1-10 page personal essays, journal entries, short autobios, photographs, art, and all other forms of self expression out there! some topics to cover include: identity - culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation violence - rape/sexual violation, abuse, gangs, incarceration, street survival sex & reproduction - pregnancy, abortion, sex work, being a mother, virginity expression - dance, music, art, writing, deejaying, sports activism - feminism, breaking stereotypes, mainstream culture, privilege, racism
please feel free to expand since there is no limit to what we have gone through. one thing i would like to note is that the set deadline is september 1. submissions sent in earlier will be given special attention. please remember to include name [or alias], age, and location as well as a return address where i can contact you. i am looking forward to working with all of you.

My name is Linda Duthiers and I am conducting a study with Dr. Becky
LIddle at Auburn University. We are hoping to learn about the process a

or multiracial identity. You must be 19 years or older and biracial or
multiracial to participate in this study. If you choose to participate
in the study, please e-mail your name and address to Linda Duthiers at
linjul@hotmail.com. I will mail you a survey which will take about 15-20

return the survey. Thank you for your interest in this project.
I am an adult college student who is doing a study on interracial marriages,
preferably black & white apouses. I, myself am white and I am married
to a black man. We also have a daughter who I have done studies on. Anyone
out there that is interested in talking with me via internet please email
me. Thank you.
I am researching for a story about a Nisei and a Caucasian. Does anyone
know where, right after World War II (1945-46) the two could have been
legally married? I have looked all over the Net, and have had many responses,
(mostly guesses) and the closest I've heard was that the miscegenation
law was repealed in California in 1948, which would be too late. I think
Hawaii would have been OK, but I need a state that also had a medical school
at that time, and Hawaii did not. Please Email me, anyone, if you can help
me. Thank you. Wilma Wall, chinagal@mobynet.com (I am not bi-racial, although
sometimes I feel like it, having been born in China and never feeling quite
American. But that's a whole different outlook)
I'm a freelance writer/reporter working on an inspirational book for
biracial children. If you think your kids would be interested (ages 8-18)
please feel free to contact me. The book will include a page or paragraph
from each child on their experiences and advice for other kids. All states/countries
welcome. Photos also needed, especially family photos including the child
with the parents. I am based in Columbus, Ohio.
I am looking for my daughter. She was born in Nupai, Paju, Korea on
11 Aug 1962. We have tried to obtain help from the Korean Social Service's
people, but to no avail. The INS say they have no record of Ena entering
the US under the name of Ena or Ina Kim. Her Korean exit paper work could
have been under another name. The date of her birth on any adoption paperwork
could also vary because of the lunar calendar and translation problems.
Possibly the date could be 9 Sep., 1962. Her given name was Ena (Ina) Kim.
Her adoption was forced by a baby broker. She left Korea, from Kimpo Airport,
in Sep.,1966. I thought she lived in California for awhile as a child,
but she may have lived in New York or New Jersey. Her American family may
have given her the name Mary. The man who adopted her was in his 40/50's
in 1966 and a song composer of some type. He and his wife had raised a
adopted son who was in his 20-30's in 1966 and was a college graduate,
who had attended school with a Mr. Yun (Yoon), who arranged the adoption.
Mr. Yun was from Seoul, Korea. Ena's father was an American soldier. She
had brown hair and eyes as a child. She only spoke Korean before she left
for the US other than a few English words. She learned this English because
Mr. Yun took her to Seoul for several weeks for lessons at his home in
1966. Mr. Yun specifically sought to find a little girl who looked Caucasian
and had light brown hair and brown eyes. She had a scar on her back from
a burn. My name is Sun Po Ace (Kim). Please email me if you can help or
the email on my web home pages.

I am a reporter who works for the Virginian-Pilot newspaper. A group of reporters and I are working on a project about race, identity and the census. I am looking for people who are from different backgrounds who wouldn't mind talking honestly about race, how you identify yourself, how the world identifies you, and how that effects you and your family. Feel free to email or call me at 446-2949. I really want this project to be truthful and honest, and right now, we have a lot of people who aren't of mixed heritage trying to figure out was is important to people who are of mixed heritage. It would be a lot better if we had some input from people in groups like My Shoes.
Thank you, Stephanie A. Crockett, phone: 757-446-2949

My name is Sarah Wallace and I am conducting a research project for
an independent study about the biracial experience of adolescents. I am
a senior Psychology major at Fisk University (in Nashville, TN) and am
being advised by Dr. Sheila Peters. I am requesting at least 40 African-
American/Caucasian Biracial adolescents, between the ages of 15-19, to
answer approximately thirty questions pertaining to race, self-esteem,
and experiences growing up. If you are interested in participating in this
research that would take up to 15 minutes of your time, please email me
at Sarahwallace@hotmail.com. This is a confidential study. If you have
any questions, please feel free to email Dr. Peters (speters@dubois.fisk.edu)
or myself. Thanks.
Hello Good People!
My name is Leslie Grinner and I am a graduate student at Syracuse University. Currently I am working on my Master's Thesis in Child & Family Studies, and I am researching the ways in which women who are the products of a Black/white interracial union have been socialized around issues of race and racism. All information received and used is confidential and will be destroyed upon completion of my thesis. Specifically, I have a survey that each participant would complete, a consent form, and I would then ask that each participant write a narrative with a few questions to guide you. Participation is voluntary and unpaid. As a Black/ white biracial woman myself, this research is near and dear to me. I look forward to hearing from any interested women.
