Leah

I am 16 years old and of multiracial backgroun. My paternal grandmother is half black and half Chinese. Her husband, my grandfather, is of English, Portugues, and Arawak Indian descent. On my mothers side, my grandmother's father was half Venezuelan, half Scottish, and her mother was black and Carib Indian. My grandfather was half portugues, half Chinese. My father was born in Jamaica, and my mother was born in Trinidad. The idea of "multiracial" seems to be more accepted there, maybe because its more common. Many times, people often take me for Hispanic, Italian, or Middle Eastern. I live in a predominantly white area of New York, and many of my friends and people I meet are so amazed at my background. I find it hard to choose one race, because I can't fully identify with one. I'm proud of what I am.
