I am not even sure if I qualify as being mixed. My mother comes from a long line of mulatoes from Haiti. She was born in Port-au Prince and arrived in the U.S. at the age of 25. My father was born in Magdeburg, Germany. He met my mother in New York in English school. They married much later as my father was not sure he could get a good job in this country to stay and be with my mother. As a result, as was born late in their lives. My mother was 42 and my father was 52. I was the only child. My parents decided to move to southern California in the late 60s. I attended a Catholic school known for its Filipino and Hispanic communities. Both of these groups were very proud of their heritage to the point of excluding others. this added further hardship to my already confused state. To put it bluntly, I am 26 and have yet to find my place in this world. I was starting to think that mixed groups did not exist anymore until I happened across this website. THANK YOU!!!
