Eleonore
Dennis

Hello I am Eleonore Dennis from Oklahoma. I was excited to find a web site that gives support to those that have a biracial background. I am 39 years old, a teacher, and my biracial heritage is of German and African-American descent. I grew up around the military life style but lived in a mainly African American environment. Presently, I still live near the military installation where I teach school to junior high students in my home town.
Since the Internet is the new way to the information age, I began seeking information about the biracial experience. I had little success in the summer of 1996. After locating this site in November of 1996, I was excited! I began reading letters of those that gave feedback and decided that I would give input. The volume of responses to this site has greatly increased in the past year. I have enjoyed reading the life experiences of other biracial individuals.
Even though I neither have a white appearance nor an African-American appearance, I have still experienced the racism of being biracial. Some see me as being of Hispanic descent. I am proud of my background and am not satisfied with just identifying myself as African-American. In the past I have always felt that I never measured up to the standard of being African-American, ie.(you talk white, act white, dance white, but you really don't look white, and you got GOOD hair)! I have come to accept who and what I am without fear of pleasing others and I thank my Lord Jesus Christ for helping me through the tough times of my life. I am grateful for the love in my heart He has given me and for others. I am glad to be a member of this web site and I hope that it continues to grow and provides the public a positive awareness of the biracial experience.----(Enjoy Life!!)
