When growing up as a kid my parents never made a big deal about race. I didn't know the difference until 4th or 5th grade when the ?'s started. My dad is Mexican american and my mom is Jewish american. I practice Judaism and embrace my dad's Mexican culture. My neighborhood is mostly Latino and most of my friends where hispanic. At school i was always asked what are you? Why do you have light skin? You don't speak Spanish? At first I didn't mind too much. As the years passed and the ?'s didn't. I am now in 10th grade and every day there is either a ? or comment about my background. If anyone has any advice to what i can do to STOP THE ?'s or has a similiar experience, please write to me.
