My name is Crystal Oxendine. I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina. My parents are originally from Lumberton and Pembroke, NC. I am 22 years old and attend college at Fayetteville State University. I am part Lumbee Indian, part white and part African-American. I have mostly black features and most people assume that I am black. It doesn't bother me because I know so little about my African heritage. Most of what I know come from history books that are totally biased to whites. Since I attend a historically black college I am able to gain an understanding of the black culture and appreciate my heritage now. My parents what me to be only white and Indian when that is not a true representation of who I am. Sometimes I am tore between wanting to please my parents and trying to better myself. I hope talking on this page will help me meet people in similar situations.
