Iaorana to you all!
I'm a Tahitian and my father is a popa'a (white - from the other side) who went back to his country after military service. I grew up in a fibro shack in Tahiti-Faa'a next to the airport, petrol station the cemetery and the church. And everybody was a cousin, an auntie, or a mama. As a child, I used to sit under the breadfruit tree and write. And many people would say, "Girl, only the popa'a write. Us, we just tell stories." Breafruit, my first published novel, deals with the lives and loves of and extended Tahitian family. I'm half white and brown and proud of it!
