This is the first time I've ever attempted to communicate publicly on this topic, although it's affected me profoundly throughout my life. I guess I'm at the point where I feel the need to discuss it aloud. My make-up is MOTHER: AFRICAN AMERICAN & NATIVE AMERICAN, (brown skin, wavy, silky hair) FATHER: DOMINICAN & DUTCH (fair skin, curly hair). I've been mistaken as anything from Hispanic to Haitian, so I don't look white, but then again, I don't look black. My situation is that I've not been able to come to grips with it. The questions of "what do you consider yourself?" have eaten away at me, and I need some recourse. I'm not so much here trying to participate in a forum for cameraderie, as trying to locate a facility through which I can exorcise my personal demons. My siblings, though to a lesser extent, have been affected, as well. Personal counseling has been less than sucessful, because of, I suspect, lack of training in this area.
